A weekend for all music-lovers:–
singing, songwriting and music! Bring your instruments.

  Song-writing

Guitar tuition

Song-writing sessions are led by singer-songwriter Elaine Samuels, whose list of musical credentials include being the founder of the Windsor Song-writing Festival and the new "West London Song Contest".

The song-writing sessions help participants to generate ideas and show them how to turn those ideas into fully fledged songs. They look at song structures and styles, create hook lines and ultimately write their own songs.

Guitar tuition, all styles and levels, is provided by Andrew Walpole – performer, song maker, and guitar teacher. People learn different ways of playing chords in these sharing, interactive workshops, where you play songs you have brought with you. Comments he has received about some of his previous classes are:-

' can’t stop talking about how great the class is '

  'what a fabulous teacher ' .

Breathing & voice techniques

Singing in harmony

Voice coach Surya Cooper offers yoga-based breathing and voice techniques. Surya is an experienced teacher with a certificate in music education and 15 years experience of leading workshops in singing and guitar, voice work, dance, yoga and counselling.

Voice workshops start with breathing, vocal and rhythmic exercises giving opportunities to improvise, harmonise and expand our vocal prowess and singing techniques, increasing confidence in our voices.

Linda Lee, founder and leader of the ever-expanding Swindon Scratch Choir, gets us singing in harmony to songs old and new, or even newly-written!

The weekend started on Friday evening and ended
on Sunday at 4pm with tea, cake, and a final song.

What to expect at Lower Shaw Farm

The organisers at Lower Shaw Farm aim to provide events of good quality. They like to combine work and play, the making of discoveries and the making of friends. They encourage people and planet-friendly ideas, wholesome food, good talk, or music-making and storytelling round the fire in the yard, by the woodstove, or in the Pleasure Garden. They reckon that today’s stranger is tomorrow’s friend and that life is for learning.

Once home to seventy black and white cows, the farm is now a 3-acre oasis in an area of suburban development. Its outbuildings have been converted to meeting rooms, dormitories, and workshops.

With its large vegetable, herb, and flower gardens, its shrubs and trees, its puddles and ponds, hens and ducks, black and white sheep, Kune-Kune pig, and unspoilt areas for play and exploration, the farm has developed an atmosphere and character of its own. It is outwardly ramshackle and inwardly ordered. It’s sort of wild, welcoming, and very nice!

Accommodation is in chalets, caravans, and farmhouse rooms, and includes single (limited - so book early if this is required), double, and shared bedrooms. Blankets and pillows are provided. Please bring your own sleeping bag or sheet and pillowcase; and state your preferred sleeping requirements. Full board is provided and we can cater for special diets. Facilities are basic but homely and generally user-friendly for all people. The weekend prices include all meals, accommodation and tuition.
